1. Special Performance of UHMWPE FilamentÂ
 (1) high specific strength, high specific modulus.
Its specific strength is more than ten times of the same wire, and specific modulus ranks only second to superfine carbon fiber.
 (2) low fiber density, which is 0.97 0.98 g/cm3,  and helps the fiber to float on water surface.
 (3) low elongation at break and big specific work of rupture, makes it have strong ability to absorb energy, thus it has outstanding impact resistance and cutting resistance.
 (4) UHMWPE fiber can resist ultraviolet radiation, neutron and gamma rays, and has higher specific energy absorption, low dielectric constant, as well as high electromagnetic wave transmission rate.
(5) It also has characteristic of chemical corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, and long flex life.

4. Ballistic Application of UHMWPE FilamentÂ
  Because of its numerous excellent characteristics, UHMWPE fiber shows great advantage in high performance fiber market, from mooring ropes of offshore oil field to high performance lightweight composite materials. It plays a vital role in modern war and territories such as aviation, aerospace, maritime defense equipments.
  Benefiting from its good impact resistance performance and high specific energy absorption, it can be used to make protective cloth, helmets and bulletproof material, such as armor plates of helicopters, tanks and warships, protective shell cover of radar, missile shield, body armor, stab-resistant clothes, shield, etc., among which application of body armor is the most conspicuous.
  Soft and better bulletproof effect than that of nomex fiber, makes it become main fiber of bulletproof vest market in the United States.
  Besides, The specific recoiling load value U/p of UHMWPE fiber composite material is 10 times of that of steel, and more than 2 times of that of glass fiber and aramid fiber.
In foreign countries, bulletproof, antiriot helmets, which is made of resin composite materials reinforced by UHMWPE fiber, has become substitute of steel helmet and helmet of nomex fiber reinforced composite material.
