Design your own unique scarf with DNA

The DNA similarity of all humans is 99.9 percent, but this does not mean that we do not have our own personal qualities and appearance. The mysterious zero point is the reason why everyone can easily become different from the people around them. Zero percent sounds very little. After all, the DNA similarity between humans and bananas is 50%, and the similarity with dog DNA is 84%. But when your DNA is only 16% different from those that eat garbage, this one percent suddenly becomes important.

The London company Dot One wants to take advantage of this unique piece of genetic information and turn it into something interesting that people can see. The company wants to capture the DNA fragments of its customers and use the information contained in its fragments as examples of patterns on posters, family trees, scarves and checkered fabrics.

British designer Iona Inglesby created the Dot One company in order to celebrate the unique piece of genetic information. Customers simply put a cotton swab into their mouths to collect DNA and provide the collected samples to Dot One to see their DNA on the company's products. The company uses a genetic testing facility called Alpha Biolabs for data collection. Once the customer submits their DNA samples, the laboratory technique can scan a gene coding region called a short tandem repeat (English abbreviated STR). Everyone's STR is different, and people often study it in forensic identification and paternity testing.

Alpha Biolabs uses 23 STRs in each gene sequence to create unique fingerprints, which they say are completely different for everyone on the planet. They then hand over this information to Dot One, which then matches each STR to a value based on the molecular characteristics of each STR. Each number will correspond to a color, which creates a unique style for everyone. Dot One used this method to successfully turn icy numbers into something more beautiful. The scarves they made were colorful and full of personal characteristics, making a wonderful fashion statement for the colder weather.
